TRANSFORMATION

2018 PICKATHON MUSIC FESTIVAL ART INSTALLATION

HAPPY VALLEY, OR

What is a way to symbolize the transformation a festival goer takes?

This installation was built by a team consisting of members from FFA Architecture + Interiors for the Pickathon Music Festival.

The concept for this piece was to symbolize the internal transformation a festival goer takes. Entering the festival is entering a temporary community where one sheds the layers of density, rigidity and routines of every day life for a more organic and expressive experience. The piece is a series of pyramid structures with light guiding you. The string on the structures structure starts out in more dense and rigid patterns, which as you move becomes more open and less formulaic. The final structures are the tallest and open up right into the main stage area.

I was a member of the design team from the birth of this project. As our concept moved to structural forms I helped build many of the process SketchUp models. As a team we constructed the individual pieces on site until we were allowed to begin building on site.
