TYSON STAAB'S PORTFOLIO

This installation was built by a team consisting of members from FFA Architecture + Interiors, Walker Macy and Luma Lighting Design. Our installation was located at the World Trade Center in downtown Portland.

The concept was to utilize light as a mechanism for interaction and connection between people. An enclosure of two half circles offset houses a central lighting fixture meant to symbolize a fire; which was the first form of man-made light. Benches surround the "campfire" with lights that shoot out the back when someone sits on them. The enclosure walls are a series of reflective and refractive panels that can spin creating a constantly shifting interplay with the light as it spreads out. People sitting on the benches interact with each other which creates more light outwards for people to interact with as they rotate the panels.

I was a member of the design team from the birth of this project. As our concept moved to structural forms I built many of the process SketchUp models. This led to me becoming the "construction manager" of the project as I developed the structural details of the project and directed tasks during the build days and site installation.
